Gran Valencia to finish top

Gran Valencia secured top spot in the ‘Central Group’ after they drew 0-0 against second-placed side Deportivo La Guaira. It was their seventh draw of 11 games, winning the other four games.

They are therefore unbeaten so far this season – the only side in all three groups to have not lost a game. However, they will need to turn draws into wins if they are to have a successful season.

La Guaira are in second, four points off Gran Valencia, having drawn their last three games. A top-two place is not assured with Yaracuyanos a point behind with a game in behind.

Tachira secure top-two spot

In the ‘Occidental Group’, Deportivo Tachira have guaranteed a top-two spot after they drew 1-1 against Estudiantes de Merida FC. Portuguesa are three points behind and can go level on points with Tachira if they win their game in hand.

Arrieche scores in stoppage time to rescue draw

Lastly, Caracas and Monagas are tied on points at the top of the ‘Oriental Group’. Richard Celis has led the line for Caracas this season, scoring seven goals – the most of any player in the league.

He scored at the weekend as the top two drew 2-2 in an enthralling game.

Johan Arrieche equalised in the 98th minute to salvage a point and keep them level on points with Caracas with one game remaining. Caracas have a better goal difference but are winless in their last four games.
