Liverpool move into the top four

Liverpool leapfrogged Leicester into fourth and are now just one win away from a top four place after they beat Burnley 3-0 at Turf Moor.

Goals from Roberto Firmino, Nat Phillips and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain were enough for Jurgen Klopp’s side to win their fourth consecutive Premier League game.

The match

The visitors were full of belief and confidence after their last-gasp win at the Hawthorns, via a sensational header from Alisson, but had to grind out a win that was not as simple as the scoreline makes out.

Burnley were roared on by 3000 home fans as Chris Wood posed problems in the first-half for Liverpool’s makeshift defence. The New Zealander shot wide when he got in behind the Liverpool defence, while Mohamed Salah blazed over for Liverpool when through on goal.

On the stroke of half-time, Firmino finished from Andy Robertson’s pull-back to put Liverpool in the lead.

It has been a remarkable few months for Nat Phillips and he capped his immense performance off with a header in the 52nd minute from Sadio Mane’s cross.

Liverpool were then in control and added a third with a low shot from substitute Oxlade-Chamberlain.

What does it mean?

Liverpool are now above Leicester on goal difference going into the final day with a four goal advantage. They face Crystal Palace on the final day, knowing a win is likely to be enough to secure a top-four finish.

Sean Dyche’s side are now winless in 10 games at home in the Premier League, dating back to January. They travel to Bramall Lane on the final day hoping to end the season on a high.
