Plaza Amador continue unbeaten run

Plaza Amador extended their lead at the top of Group A to six points in the Liga Panameña de Fútbol after they beat Azuero 3-1.

The match

Ricardo Buitrago opened the scoring in the ninth minute with an unstoppable free kick that was too powerful for Edwin Ortega.

Just two minutes later, the hosts doubled their lead with a swift counter. Samir Ramirez finished off the move with an excellent dink past Ortega.

Luis Tejada pulled one back for the visitors from the penalty spot in the 36th minute but it was to no avail as Plaza Amador ran out easy winners with Luis Hurtado wrapping up victory with a late penalty.

What it means

Jorge Dely Valdes’s side are top of Group A with five wins and five draws from their 10 games.

They have a six-point lead over their nearest rivals Arabe Unido. Azuero (Herrera) are fifth in Group B with just 11 points from 10 games.

Deportivo Universitario in command of Group B

Plaza Amador stretched their lead to six points in Group A after nearest rivals Arabe Unido were beaten 2-1 by Group B leaders Deportivo Universitario. Universitario came from behind to win, conceding first after Yeison Gonzales beat the offside trap and finished smartly from close range.

A wonderful free kick from top scorer Jair Catuy levelled things up at the beginning of the second half, before Ivan Anderson’s low finish completed the comeback.

What it means

Deportivo Universitario are unbeaten, having won seven and drawn three of 10 games. They have a seven-point lead over second-placed side Independiente in Group B.
