Manchester United came from behind to beat Tottenham 3-1 and dent Jose Mourinho’s side of a top four place in a heated game at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
First half
The match started slowly with both sides unable to penetrate. There was controversy though as Edinson’s Cavani goal was ruled out by referee Chris Kavanagh following a VAR review after Scott McTominay was adjudged to have caught Son Heung-Min with his arm.
The Man United players were livid and incensed with the decision and the game became very frenetic.
To rub salt into the wounds, the man involved in the incident – Son Heung-Min – tapped in from Lucas Moura’s cross to put Spurs ahead before half time.
Second half
The visitors dominated from the beginning of the second half and deservedly equalised in the 57th minute.
Fred started a fluid passing move on the edge of the box and exchanged passes with Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford, before finding Cavani, whose shot was saved by Hugo Lloris.
Fred carried on his run and pounced to equalise for United. It was only his second goal for the Red Devils, and he had taken 73 shots since his last goal.
After being denied of a goal in the first half, Cavani then got the all-important winning goal with a diving header with 11 minutes to go after an inviting Mason Greenwood cross.
The 19-year-old then bamboozled Sergio Reguilon and fired a shot past Hugo Lloris to add a third in stoppage time.
What it means
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side have now opened up a seven-point lead over Leicester in third. Spurs lost their 10th match of the season; and are seventh – six points off a top four place.
Stats
Man United are unbeaten in 23 away league games, which is only second in top-flight history to Arsenal’s 27 match run between April 2003 and September 2004.
They have gained 28 points from losing positions in the Premier League this season, while Spurs have dropped 18 points from winning positions in the Premier League this season.
