TSV Steinbach draw again

TSV Steinbach dropped to third in the table as they were held to a 1-1 draw against Pirmasens in the German Regionalliga Südwest.

First half

The visitors came close to opening the scoring in the first half when Dennis Chessa fired a shot just wide of the far post.

Top-scorer Sascha Marquet nearly put the hosts ahead with a stunning bicycle kick but his attempt went just over the bar.

Second half

Four minutes into the second half, TSV Steinbach were awarded a penalty for a handball by Daniel Bohl. It was a contentious decision as replays showed his arms were down and behind his back.

Marquet converted the penalty to score his 16th league goal of the season.

Pirmasens responded well and were back on level terms just after the hour mark. Dennis Krob rose above Raphael Koczor to nod Chessa’s cross into the empty net.

The away side started to press for a winner and were denied by a brilliant save by Koczor to tip David Becker’s curling strike away from goal.

Enis Bytyqi should then have won it for the hosts but his hooked strike from close range went over the bar.

What it means

TSV Steinbach fall to third after their fourth 1-1 draw in a row. Pirmasens have drawn four of their last six games and have dropped to 15th, just two points outside of the relegation zone.

Kickers Offenbach go second

Elsewhere, Kickers Offenbach moved up to second in the table after they edged past Ulm 1-0 to leapfrog them in the table.

Maik Vetter’s left footed thunderbolt after 26 minutes was the difference between the two sides and means the hosts are now six points behind the leaders Freiburg II in the table.
