In their first game for 20 days, Enrico Maaßen’s side had to battle and grind out a key victory in the German Regionalliga.
BVB were without striker and top scorer Steffen Tigges who was called up to the first team.
First half
Jannick Mause struck the crossbar from distance for the hosts in the first half with Richmond Tachie also heading against the bar for the league-leaders.
Dortmund II were frustrated in the first half as they struggled to break Wegberg Beeck down.
Second half
In the second half, the visitors fashioned more opportunities and came close when Florian Krebs was denied by Stefan Zabel.
Ansgar Knauff fired a shot wide of the post as the visitors pursued a winner.
They got what they desired in the 87th minute when Knauff’s dribble into the penalty area attracted Wegberg defenders to the ball and Richmond Tachie was too sharp for Meik Kuhnel, who slid in and fouled the 21-year-old.
Tachie slotted his penalty into the corner to score his seventh of the season. Dortmund broke clear in the 90th minute to wrap up victory. Henri Weigelt won the ball back to feed Tachie who unselfishly teed up Florian Krebs to tap home.
What it means
Borussia Dortmund II are three points ahead of second-placed side RW Essen, who beat Fortuna Koeln with goals from Oguzhan Kefkir and Felix Backszat. Essen have a game in hand on BVB.
The Black and Yellow youngsters started a hectic schedule of six games in 21 days and will need to use their squad if they are to sustain a promotion push.
Wegberg Beeck are 15th and have lost four of their last five games.
