Mount goal increases Anfield misery for Liverpool
Mason Mount scored a stunning winner to move Chelsea into the top four and inflict a fifth consecutive defeat at home for reigning champions Liverpool
The English midfielder scored the only goal of the game in the 42nd minute, cutting inside from the left and firing a low shot into the far corner.
It was his third goal in his last five league matches.
Liverpool barely threatened and their best chance was squandered by Sadio Mane, who missed his kick when played through by Mohamed Salah in the first half.
The league’s leading scorer, Salah was then taken off just after the hour mark in a surprising change made by Klopp.
The hosts did not have a shot on target until the 84th minute which was a simple save for Edouard Mendy from Georginio Wijnaldum’s weak header.
What it means
The win moved Chelsea into the top four while Liverpool are down in seventh, four points behind the West London club.
