Late goals for City maintain remarkable winning run

Manchester City scored three times in the last 13 minutes to beat Wolves 4-1 and extend their sensational winning run to 21 games in all competitions.

The match

City completely dominated the first half with the visitors not registering a touch in the penalty area or having a shot on goal.

They took the lead when Riyad Mahrez’s cross was inadvertently turned in by Leander Dendoncker in the 15th minute.

However, against the run of play, Conor Coady equalised for the visitors just after the hour mark. It was Wolves’s first touch in the penalty area and his first ever goal in the Premier League

City showed why they’re the champions elect by digging in and finding a way to win. Gabriel Jesus fired in from close range with 10 minutes remaining after Kyle Walker got in behind the Wolves defence.

Riyad Mahrez then placed a shot into the far corner to add some gloss to the win, before Jesus grabbed his second with a poacher’s finish after Ilkay Gundogan’s shot was saved.

What it means

Pep Guardiola’s side have won 15 consecutive Premier League games and lead second-placed Man United – who have a game in hand – by 15 points.

The two sides meet in the Manchester derby on Sunday. Meanwhile, Wolves are comfortable in mid-table with 34 points.

Stats

The Blues haven’t dropped points in the league since drawing with West Brom on the 15th of December.

They are unbeaten in a midweek Premier League game (Tuesday- Thursday) since May 2010 when Peter Crouch scored a crucial goal to earn Tottenham a top-four place ahead of City.

City have equalled Arsenal’s Premier League record of 19 games without trailing at any point.
