The match
Nishan Burkart broke the deadlock just after the half-hour mark with his 12th of the season. The 21-year-old took advantage of a short back-pass to nip in and score.
However, Tobias Missner equalised just before half-time with a tap-in at the back post.
The match was evenly poised going into the final stages and it took the league-leaders until the 82nd minute to go ahead. Emilio Kehrer finished cooly from the penalty spot to put the hosts ahead, before Guillaume Furrer secured victory three minutes later.
What it means
Freiburg top the table with 50 points from 23 games. They have scored 13 goals in their last four games and lead TSV Steinbach by three points with a game in hand.
Steinbach return to winning ways
TSV Steinbach bounced back from three games without a win to beat Bahlinger SC 2-0.
Serhat Ilhan scored on the stroke of half time, breaking forward on the counter within seconds after goalkeeper Raphael Koczor made an important save at the other end.
Ilhan drove into the box and turned past two defenders before squeezing a shot into the far corner.
Sasa Strujic added a second with a header at the back post from a corner. TSV Steinbach remain second, three points behind Freiburg.
Last minute winner for Homburg
Elsewhere, Daniel Di Gregorio scored an injury-time winner as Homburg came from a goal down to beat bottom side Eintracht Stadtallendorf 2-1.
The match
Jascha Doringer opened the scoring in the fourth minute with a brilliant long-range strike. Homburg were handed the opportunity to equalise from the spot in the first half but Joao Borgert flung to his left to pull off an excellent save.
However, Homburg did find themselves level in the second half. Damjan Marceta headed from close range to score his seventh of the season, before Di Gregorio sparked delirious scenes from the visitors’ players with the last-gasp winner.
What it means
The win was Homburg’s second in a row after five games without one. They move up to eighth while Eintracht Stadtallendorf are bottom with nine points and have won just once in 24 games.
Elversberg score six
Elversberg continued their good run of form with a 6-0 hammering of TSV Schott Mainz. Israel Suero scored two penalties in the first 10 minutes to increase his goal tally to 11 for the season. They stay third in the table, while Schott Mainz are third bottom.
