Bundesliga round-up: Leipzig complete dramatic comeback; Sancho breaks assist record and Lewandowski scores two more

Leipzig mount comeback to stay in title hunt

RB Leipzig kept the title race alive with a remarkable second-half comeback against Borussia Mönchengladbach, coming from two goals down to score a last-gasp winner and win 3-2.

First half

Gladbach were winless in five league games going into the match but made a perfect start when Jonas Hofmann scored from the spot after Breel Embolo was fouled by Dayot Upamecano in the sixth minute.

Marcus Thuram got the final touch to Embolo’s header to make it two just before the 20-minute mark.

The hosts had dominated but Gladbach were pouncing on any chance they got and were clinical in front of goal.

Second half

Christopher Nkunku guided half-time substitute Alexander Sorloth’s cross into the roof of the net to pull one back before Yussuf Poulsen levelled in the 66th minute with a long-range shot that came off the post.

Julian Nagelsmann’s men were on the hunt for all three points and managed to steal victory in the dying seconds with a downward Sorloth header from Nkunku’s cross.

Dortmund close gap on top four

Borussia Dortmund eased past Arminia Bielefeld to close the gap on the top four to three points.

Jadon Sancho scored one and made another to move Dortmund up to fifth in the table. He registered his 50th assist in the Bundesliga in 99 games, becoming the youngest player to that landmark.

He has contributed 11 goals in 10 matches since the turn of the year.

Lewandowski scores two more

Elsewhere, Robert Lewandowski scored his 27th and 28th Bundesliga goals of the season as Bayern Munich hammered FC Köln 5-1 at the Allianz Arena.

The Pole moves closer to breaking Gerd Muller’s record of 40 goals in a single league season with a brace. He has 28 in 22 games and has 11 games to break the record.

However, Bayern have conceded 32 goals after 23 matches, their worst defensive record at this stage for 29 years.
