Liverpool Montevideo drop points

Liverpool Montevideo were held to a 1-1 draw against Cerro in the Uruguay Primera Division as the top sides bunched even closer.

Just five points separate the top eight teams in the league with Liverpool still leading the table.

Cerro took the lead after 24 minutes when Rodrigo Izquierdo’s pull back was met by Jose Luis Tancredi, who fired a shot into the net.

What it means

Franco Romero’s driven free kick drew Liverpool level and secured a point for the visitors. They are still unbeaten with four wins and three draws from their seven games. Liverpool host Wanderers on Wednesday evening in a significant match between first and fourth.

Torque up to second with late flurry

Three goals in the final 20 minutes saw Torque move up to second with a 3-0 win over Boston River.

A stunning free kick by Franco Pizzichillo gave them the lead in the 70th minute.

Boston River came within a whisker of equalising when Ismael Tejeria agonisingly missed the target with the goal gaping after Sebastian Cacares’ headed the ball across goal.

Gustavo Del Prete secured the win with a tap in after Jose Alvarez unselfishly passed the ball across goal.

Substitute Lucas Rodriguez Trezza added a third with a sweetly struck volley in injury time.

What it means

Torque are on 14 points, one off the top and have conceded just three goals in seven matches.

Other results

Like Liverpool, Nacional are also unbeaten. They also drew, 1-1 against Plaza Colonia which meant they fell to third in the table.

Wanderers have won back-to-back games to move up to fourth in the table. They beat struggling Cerro Largo 3-1, and are now just three points off the top.
