Seven-minute blitz
Leicester City scored three goals in seven minutes to complete an incredible 3-1 comeback win as Liverpool capitulated at the King Power Stadium.
The match
The champions were on the way to getting their season back on track when Mohamed Salah curled a shot into the far corner in the 67th minute, after a brilliant drag-back from Roberto Firmino.
But in an astonishing seven-minute period, the match was turned on its head. The hosts had a penalty ruled out by VAR, but James Maddison scored in the 78th minute from the resulting free kick after it was initially ruled out for offside.
Three minutes later, calamity struck for Liverpool as goalkeeper Alisson – for the second week running – made another howler as he ran out of his goal to clear a long ball but crashed into debutant Ozan Kabak. Jamie Vardy was left free to dribble the ball into an empty goal.
Harvey Barnes caressed a shot into the far corner after some lax Liverpool defending to complete the scoring.
What it means
Leicester remain third but go six points above Liverpool. Chelsea, who play Newcastle on Monday night, can leapfrog Jurgen Klopp’s side with a win.
Stats
Liverpool lost their third match in a row for the first time since November 2014 – when Brendan Rodgers was in charge – as their season continues to unravel.
The Merseyside club have lost five times in their last seven league games.
The Reds have conceded seven goals in their past two league games – as many as they had in their previous 10.
Maddison has been involved in eight goals in his past nine Premier League games, scoring four and assisting four.
