Dortmund II turn up the heat
Borussia Dortmund II scored nine goals in two games to go top of the Regionalliga West table.
Five goal salvo
BVB scored five goals in an astonishing 15-minute spell to beat Borussia Mönchengladbach 5-1 last Wednesday in their game in hand.
The match
They fell behind when Per Lockl drove an unstoppable shot into the far corner. Gladbach led until the 74th minute when substitute Dominik Wanner levelled with a thumping shot into the top corner.
Two minutes later, Ansgar Knauff dribbled into the box and fired a shot that deflected off a defender and past the helpless goalkeeper.
The Black and Yellows were rampant and made it 3-1 just three minutes later. Tobias Raschl got in behind the visitors’ defence down the right and his cross was inadvertently turned in by defender Lukas Müller.
Wanner then dissected the Gladbach defender to find Alaa Bakir, who ran onto the pinpoint pass and scored with a precise shot into the far corner.
Tobias Raschl completed the scoring as he became the fifth different goalscorer for Dortmund.
Emphatic win
It got even better for Dortmund, who hammered Sportfreunde Lotte 4-0 on Sunday in another dominant display.
It took just six minutes for Enrico Maaßen’s side to go ahead, and it was a brilliant team goal with swift interchanges around the edge of the box. Taylan Duman found Alaa Bakir, who crossed for Wanner to score with a cheeky flicked finish.
Seven minutes later, it was 2-0 with an equally outstanding goal with a series of flicks that ended up with Duman tapping in at the back post.
He scored again to notch his 11th of the season in the 73rd minute, tapping in after a Knauff pull-back. Richmond Tachie netted a fourth for the hosts in the 83rd minute with a sweetly struck strike.
What it means
The 4-0 win puts Dortmund II on 56 points from 23 games, two points ahead of RW Essen in second who have a game in hand. Dortmund II have won their last four league games and are unbeaten in their last 10. They face RW Essen next Saturday in a huge clash.
