Man City hammer Palace

John Stones scored twice for Manchester City as they thumped Crystal Palace 4-0 at the Etihad to go second in the Premier League.

It was Man City’s fifth successive league win and they are now two points behind Man United with a game in hand.

The English defender hadn’t scored for City in the Premier League, but he headed home a stunning Kevin De Bruyne outside-of-the-boot cross in the first half, and netted a second from a corner.

Ilkay Gundogan curled an unstoppable shot into the far corner to score his fourth goal in his last six games, while Raheem Sterling added a fourth with a brilliant free kick.

Stats

Man City are unbeaten in nine Premier League games with seven clean sheets in those games, conceding just twice.

The Blues are the first team in the Premier League to win five in a row this season.

Crystal Palace sit 13th and have failed in score in 10 of their past 14 away games, including their past three.

Kevin De Bruyne registered his 100th assist in all competitions since his move to City in 2015.

Tottenham see off the Blades

Tottenham beat bottom club Sheffield United 3-1 at Bramall Lane.

Serge Aurier scored a simple header after five minutes, while Harry Kane drilled in a low shot five minutes before half time to score his 12th league goal of the season.

Sheffield United got back into the game through David McGoldrick, but Tanguy N’Dombele’s exquisite lob restored Spurs’ two goal lead.

What it means

Jose Mourinho’s side move up to fifth after ending a run of one win in six, while Sheffield United are rooted to the bottom and are 11 points adrift of 17th placed Burnley.

No side has scored more first half goals than Tottenham (21), and no team has conceded fewer than four in the first half this season.

Other results

Leicester moved into third after a 2-0 win against Southampton. James Maddison and Harvey Barnes scored for the Foxes.

Southampton were without talisman Danny Ings, and have scored just once in five league games as they dropped to eighth in the table.

West Brom won the Black Country derby as they came from behind to win their second game of the season 3-2. It was the first win under Sam Allardyce, and they sit five points from safety.

Matheus Pereira scored two penalties for the Baggies, as Semi Ajayi also scored.

Wolves have taken just five points from nine games since Raul Jimenez fractured his skill. They are without a clean sheet in their last 12 games.

West Ham edged past Burnley with a Mikhail Antonio goal, while Chelsea got a much-needed 1-0 win against ten-man Fulham as Mason Mount got the only goal.

Burnley have scored just nine goals in 17 games, but sit four points above Fulham in 18th.
