Blades finally win
Sheffield United’s 17 game wait for a Premier League win this season ended as they beat ten-man Newcastle 1-0 at Bramall Lane.
The match
Billy Sharp’s 73rd minute penalty after a Federico Fernandez handball gave the Blades their first three points of the season. It was just their ninth goal in 18 Premier League matches this season.
Referee Andy Madley gave the penalty after he checked the incident at the monitor.
Ryan Fraser was sent off for two yellows in the first half, presenting Chris Wilder’s side an ideal opportunity to end their barren run.
Chris Wilder’s side hadn’t won for a club record 20 league games, dating back to last season.
What it means
Sheffield United remain bottom and have five points, three behind 19th placed West Brom, and nine adrift of Brighton in 17th, having played a game more than both.
Newcastle are now winless in eight in all competitions and are 15th, eight points clear of the relegation zone. They have picked up just two points from their last six league matches.
Everton into fourth
Everton moved into the top four after they beat out of form Wolves 2-1 at Molineux.
The match
Alex Iwobi’s deflected strike gave the visitors the lead in the sixth minute, before Ruben Neves volleyed home an equaliser eight minutes later.
Michael Keane headed home a winner in the 77th minute to secure Everton’s sixth away win of the season.
Carlo Ancelotti’s side are just four points off league leaders Manchester United.
The Toffees were without a striker with Dominic Calvert-Lewin injured and started Gylfi Sigurdsson as their most advanced player.
What it means
Everton sit fourth, while Wolves have won just once in their last eight games since losing striker Raul Jimenez to injury. Nuno Espirito Santo’s side have not kept a clean sheet in 12 league games and sit 14th with 22 points.
