First half
Robert Lewandowski gave Bayern the lead with a 20th minute penalty after a Florian Neuhaus handball. It was his 20th goal of the Bundesliga season.
The champions went 2-0 up six minutes later when Leon Goretzka blasted a shot past Yann Sommer. It was Bayern’s 46th league goal this season.
However, the hosts fought back and Lars Stindl cleverly teed up Hofmann to halve the deficit in the 36th minute. The goal meant Bayern are without a clean sheet in their last 10 Bundesliga games.
Gladbach levelled on the stroke of half time. Stindl again found Hoffmann in behind the Bayern defence, who finished with aplomb past Neuer. Offside was given but VAR overturned the decision.
Second half
Marco Rose’s side turned the game on its head four minutes after half-time when Neuhaus’ stunning hit left Neuer helpless.
The goal completed an amazing turnaround and Bayern were unable to strike back with Marco Rose’s side holding firm.
What it means
Bayern remain top after Leipzig lost to Dortmund while Gladbach stay seventh. The defeat was Hansi Flick’s fourth as Bayern manager with Gladbach accounting for two of those. Bayern’s 12 match unbeaten run was ended with defeat.
