Everton end Chelsea unbeaten run

A Gylfi Sigurdsson penalty gave Everton their first win in eight Premier League games in front of 2000 fans at Goodison Park against Chelsea.

The result ended Chelsea’s 17-game unbeaten run in all competitions.

The match

Sigurdsson calmly stroked home his penalty in the 28th minute, after Edouard Mendy rashly fouled Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Frank Lampard’s side dominated possession and forced saves from Jordan Pickford – with Reece James’ shot tipped onto the post by the England goalkeeper.

Mason Mount hit the post in the 81st minute from a goalkeeper, but Chelsea didn’t have a shot on target from the 28th minute onwards.

Stats

Everton were without the injured James Rodriguez but secured a hard-fought win that moves them up to seventh. It was their first clean sheet in the Premier League since the opening day against Tottenham – a run of 10 games.

Chelsea drop to fifth in the table after their second league defeat.
