Fernandes sparks another comeback

Manchester United scored three goals in 13 minutes to come from a goal down to beat West Ham 3-1 in the Premier League at the London Stadium.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side have now won a club-record nine Premier League away games in a row and have won all five away games this season after going a goal down.

The win put them briefly into fourth place until Leicester City climbed above them on Sunday.

The match

West Ham were superior in the first half in front of 2000 fans and deservedly went in front when Tomas Soucek headed in at the back post in the 38th minute.

David Moyes’ side should have been out of sight as Pablo Fornals hit the post and Sebastian Haller slipped in front of goal after rounding Dean Henderson.

Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford came on at half-time and changed the game. Fernandes set up Pogba who equalised with a magnificent effort from outside the box.

There was a VAR review to check whether Henderson’s long clearance had curled out of play and then back in but the goal stood.

Mason Greenwood put United ahead when he collected Alex Telles’ cross and, on the turn, blasted his shot into the corner. It was his first goal in eight league games.

Marcus Rashford then raced through on goal after a pinpoint pass from fellow substitute Juan Mata to make it three goals in 13 minutes.

Stats

Man United have now won more points from losing positions than any other team in Premier League history (385).

West Ham sit seventh in the table and have played seven of last season’s top eight.

Solskjaer’s side have won their first five away games in the league for the first time since 1985/86.

Since his debut, Bruno Fernandes has been involved in 36 goals in 38 matches in all competitions for Man United (22 goals, 14 assists).

Mason Greenwood has scored 20 goals in all competitions since the start of last season, twice as many as any other Premier League teenager.

West Ham have dropped more points from winning positions in 2020 than any other team in the Premier League (19).

The Red Devils are only the second side in Premier League history to score two or more goals in nine consecutive away games, after Leeds United in April 2001.
