Arsenal lose at home

Arsenal were beaten 2-1 by Wolves at the Emirates in what was their fifth defeat in 10 league games so far this season and their third consecutive home defeat.

Raul Jimenez suffered a horrible head injury which led to a lengthy stoppage. Wolves took the lead through Pedro Neto in the 27th minute, who finished past Leno after Leonardo Dendoncker headed on to the bar from an Adama Traore cross.

Gabriel equalised with a header three minutes after, but Nuno Espirito Santo’s side took control of the game and went ahead again when Daniel Podence skilfully flicked the ball over Gabriel and slotted home.

Stats

The result means Arsenal have made their worst start to a season since 1981. The game was a year on from the sacking of Unai Emery. The Gunners have lost five of their last eight league games.

Arsenal lie 14th in the table with 13 points from 10 games, while Wolves move up to sixth with 17 points. 17 points after 10 games of a top-flight campaign is the most Wolves have made since 1979/80.

Only the bottom four sides: Fulham, West Brom, Burnley and Sheffield United have scored fewer goals than Arsenal this season (10). They have also had the 16th most shots in the league (95).

Arsenal attempted 31 crosses from open play in the game – the third most from any side in a league game this season.

Mikel Arteta’s side have had just eight shots on target in their last four games, with striker Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang without a goal from open play since the opening day. He has scored just twice in 10 league games.
