Anorthosis top of the league
Anorthosis are top of the Cypriot first division as they beat rivals AEK Larnaca 1-0.
Midfielder Kostakis Artymatas scored a volley from outside the area to give the hosts the win in the derby match. It was his first goal of the season.
Manager Temur Ketsbaia was proud of his players after a gruelling run of games.
He said: “I want to talk about my players. I’m proud, we played 5 games in 15 days. We are top and we have qualified for the last eight of the cup.”
The hosts are unbeaten in their last six league games and last lost to Apollon Limassol in September.
AEK Larnaca are in sixth place with 16 points from nine games, level on points with fourth-placed Olympiakos Nicosia.
Limassol beaten
Apollon Limassol lost their first league match of the season 2-1 against strugglers Karmiotissa Pano Polemidion.
Limassol took the lead through Charlison Benschop – his fourth goal of the season but two Ismail Sassi goals turned the game around and gave Polemidion their first league win in six matches.
