Top two battle it out

It is second versus first in the Bundesliga with Borussia Dortmund hosting Bayern Munich in ‘Der Klassiker’ at the Signal Iduna Park.

After six Bundesliga games, the two sides are level on points with five wins from six games. Hansi Flick’s side are ahead on goal difference after scoring a record-breaking 24 goals in their six matches so far.

Meanwhile, Dortmund have the best defensive record in the Bundesliga this season, conceding just two goals in the Bundesliga.

Head-to-head

Bayern Munich have beaten Borussia Dortmund in six of the last seven Bundesliga matches.

The last meeting between the sides took place in the Supercup this season with Joshua Kimmich scoring the winner as Bayern won narrowly 3-2.

Kimmich was once again the difference when they faced each other last in the Bundesliga. He scored a deft chip from 20 yards to win the game for Bayern. It was a vital result in the title race that put Bayern on the verge of their eighth straight title.

Team news

Canadian left-back Alphonso Davies is out for Bayern through injury as is Niklas Süle while Lucien Favre’s side are without Nico Schulz, Dan-Axel Zagadou and Marcel Schmelzer. Emre Can is a major doubt after he tested positive for COVID-19.

Lewandowski record

Robert Lewandowski has an excellent record against his former side – he has scored 18 goals in all competitions against Dortmund in 21 matches and 16 goals in 12 matches in the Bundesliga.

He is the all-time top-scorer in the matches played between the sides – with 23 goals.
