Bale scores winner for Spurs

In the Premier League, Gareth Bale came off the bench to score the winner for Tottenham Hotspur against Brighton in the Premier League as Jose Mourinho’s side won 2-1.

It was Bale’s first goal since re-signing for Spurs from Real Madrid and his first goal since 2013 for the club. The result moved Spurs up to second in the league, two points behind leaders Liverpool.

Harry Kane put Spurs ahead from the penalty spot inside the first 15 minutes to score his 149th Premier League goal and his sixth this season. He is now level with Les Ferdinand in 10th spot in the all-time Premier League top-scorers list.

Tariq Lamptey equalised for Brighton in the 56th minute amid VAR controversy. The pass for the goal was made by Pascal Gross – his 16th assist for Brighton.

Bale then powered home a header from Sergio Reguilon’s cross in the 73rd minute to give Jose Mourinho’s side all three points.

Brighton have won just one of their seven league games this season and are in 16th.

Everton beaten again

Without key players Lucas Digne, Richarlison and James Rodriguez, Everton slipped to another defeat, at St James’ Park.

The Toffees were beaten 2-1 as Callum Wilson scored two penalties for Steve Bruce’s side in the second half.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin added a late consolation goal for Everton – who have lost back-to-back Premier League matches and not won in three.

Jordan Pickford was dropped for the game after 120 consecutive Premier League appearances – he was replaced by Robin Olsen.

It was Newcastle’s first win in three matches, moving up to 10th while Everton drop down to third.

Walker wins it for City

Kyle Walker scored the only goal of the game as Man City beat Sheffield United 1-0 at Bramall Lane.

It was City’s third league win of the season while Sheffield United are winless with just one point from seven games. Chris Wilder’s side had just one shot on target in the match.

Chelsea ease to win

Chelsea won 3-0 against Burnley at Turf Moor to record their fourth consecutive clean sheet in all competitons.

Hakim Ziyech scored one and assisted one on his first league start for the club, while Kurt Zouma and Timo Werner scored the other goals for Frank Lampard’s side.

The Blues are up to fourth, while Burnley remain 18th with one point from their six games. It was Burnley’s heaviest home league defeat since December 2019.

Edouard Mendy has conceded just one goal in six matches for Chelsea in all competitions.

Dream debut

Elsewhere, Wolves beat Crystal Palace 2-0 with teenager Rayan Ait-Nouri scoring on his Wolves debut and Daniel Podence bagging the other goal.
