Perugia top of the table
Sir Safety Conad Perugia are top of the Italian SuperLega table after winning their sixth successive match of the season against Trentino 3-1.
Perugia had to come back from a set down to win, losing the first set 25-17 but they fought back and won three successive sets (25-22, 25-17, 27-25) to stay top of the league and the only side with 18 points.
Wilfredo León once again won MVP of the match as he scored 18 points including four aces. Leon has scored 108 points and is the fourth highest points-scorer this season.
The fourth set was closely fought with Trentino close to taking it to a final set but missed their chance on set point at 25–24. Trentino’s Nimir Abdel-Aziz was the match’s top points-scorer with 24.
Lube in second
Defending champions Cucine Lube Civitanova also won but by three sets to nil against Kioene Padova (25-11,25-20, 25-14) to keep up their unbeaten start.
Captain Osmany Juantorena scored 14 points for Lube, and they are just a point behind Perugia with 17 points from their six matches.
Milan in third
Allianz Milan are in third place after winning their third consecutive league game 3-1 against Verona (15-25, 25-19, 27-25, 25-22). Milan lost the first set convincingly and were on the verge of losing the third set, trailing 23-21 but won three straight points to turn it around.
Jean Patry led the scoring for Milan with 19 points – he has 110 for the season and is ranked third highest in the competition for points scored. Matey Kaziyski top-scored in the match with 24 points for Verona. Milan setter Ricardo Sbertoli was named MVP of the match.
Other results
There were also wins for Modena and Volley Callipo against Gas Sales Piacenza and Porto Rubur Costa 3-0 and 3-2 respectively. Volley Callipo are in fourth, while Modena are in fifth. Top Volley Latino also won 3-1 against Volley Milano.
