City edge past Arsenal

Manchester City narrowly saw off Arsenal in a tight game at the Etihad to win 1-0.

Raheem Sterling, who was the stand-in captain for City, finished from close range after Phil Foden’s shot was saved by Bernd Leno.

It was Sterling’s fourth goal of the season in all competitions and his second league goal of the season. City were without Kevin De Bruyne, who was injured.

Arsenal are still waiting to end their drought of winning away at a ‘top six’ team. They have not won one in 29 games and their last win was in 2015, against Man City. The Gunners have also lost seven league matches in a row against City.

United score four

Man United bounced back from their 6-1 hammering against Tottenham to beat Newcastle United 4-1, scoring three late goals.

They fell behind to a Luke Shaw own goal but equalised through a Harry Maguire header. Bruno Fernandes’ penalty was saved by Darlow, his first penalty miss since he joined United, he had scored 10 in a row since joining last January.

However, he finished smartly to end a sweeping team move down the left-hand side. The Portuguese has now been involved in 20 goals in 18 appearances for United (11 goals, 9 assists).

Aaron Wan-Bissaka then blasted the ball past Karl Darlow to score the third for United and his first career goal in his 50th game for the Reds.

Marcus Rashford finished a one-on-one in the final minute to give Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side their second league win of the season.

Chelsea blow lead

Chelsea conceded in stoppage time to draw 3-3 against Southampton at Stamford Bridge.

Jannik Vestergaard’s dramatic injury-time equaliser gave Southampton a point after they came back from 2-0 down to level through goals from Danny Ings and Che Adams.

Timo Werner, who scored 34 times last season in all competition, scored his first two Premier League goals for Chelsea and also assisted fellow German Kai Havertz for the third goal.

Frank Lampard’s side have now conceded 63 goals in 43 games, an average of 1.5 per game.

Since the start of last season, only Jamie Vardy (28) has scored more Premier League goals than Danny Ings (26)

Barkley puts Villa second

Ross Barkley’s late goal saw Aston Villa maintain their 100% start to the season and beat Leicester 1-0.

His low strike from range found the bottom corner and means Villa are in second with a game in hand.

Dean Smith’s side have won their opening four top-flight games for the first time in 90 years and have not lost in the league for eight games.

Late drama sees points shared

There were draws in the two other games as Sheffield United drew 1-1 with Fulham and Crystal Palace were held 1-1 by Brighton.

Billy Sharp’s penalty in the 85th minute levelled things up after Ademola Lookman’s solo goal gave Fulham the lead.

Aleksandar Mitrovic’s penalty hit the crossbar and he then fouled Jack Robinson to give away a penalty to Sheffield United.

It was the first point of the season for both Sheffield United and Fulham.

Alexis Mac Allister scored in the 90th minute to equalise for Brighton after Wilfried Zaha’s penalty gave Palace the lead. It was Roy Hodgson’s side only shot of the game.

Lewis Dunk was sent off for Brighton for a two-footed challenge.
