Man United news

Man United travel to St. James Park hoping they can bounce back from their 6-1 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur before the international break.

Solskjaer’s side have started poorly, losing two of their first three games and conceding 11 goals. United lie in 16th place in the league, having played a game fewer than most sides.

Team news

United made a flurry of signings on deadline day but striker Edinson Cavani is unavailable due to quarantine rules. However, left-back Alex Telles could make his United debut. Anthony Martial is suspended for three games for striking Erik Lamela.

Allan Saint-Maximin, who this week signed a long-term contract, is back fit after a knock. Goalkeeper Martin Dubravka, Matt Ritchie and Dwight Gayle are all out injured.

Key stats

The Red Devils have taken the second lowest amount of shots in the division with 29 – only West Brom have taken fewer.

Newcastle have made a positive start to the season with seven points from four games and managed a 3-1 victory against Burnley before the international break.

Callum Wilson has adjusted well since signing for Steve Bruce’s side – scoring four goals in four starts.

Head-to-head

In both fixtures last season, Matty Longstaff scored the opening goal of the game as the Geordies won the first game at home 1-0. In the return game at Old Trafford, United won 4-1 with goals from Mason Greenwood, Marcus Rashford and two from Anthony Martial.
